The sun is shining on Detroit again

Whether you read travel magazines or just hard news, you have probably heard Detroit is undergoing a resurgence, most of it centered around the Downtown and Midtown areas, at least for now. I have been observing the changes for at least 10 years now. Here are some images taken within the last 6 months. (Be sure and click on some of the photos – a couple of them, like the one below showing the industrial jungle downriver from Detroit, are spectacular in large format. The Ambassador Bridge links the U.S. and Canada
The Book Tower, completed in 1926, sat empty for decades but is now being redeveloped.
Comerica Ballpark is the home of the Detroit Tigers.
Dusk falls on downtown Detroit. The Motor City Hotel and Casino can be seen in the background.
Renaissance Center houses the headquarters of the General Motors Corporation.
The Book Cadillac building was redeveloped into a Westin hotel. It was an early project in Detroit’s downtown renaissance, opening in 2006.
The Detroit People Mover still moves Detroiters and visitors around the city’s central core.
Shinola, a local start-up that has gone national, makes watches right here in Detroit.
The QLine, Detroit’s latest transit project, opened May 12, 2017. Here it is during testing in April.
Detroit has some surprisingly spectacular sunsets.
